TPB - A Simple Explanation


When you set tpb to 4, 8, 16 etc. you have to change the way you track the notes (i.e. increase the spacing between each hit). For example, placing a bass and snare drum for a basic house beat may look like this at 4tbp:

etc.

At 8tpb you'd need to increase the spacing like this (double the tbp, double the spacing):

13 -- --

It isn't totally necessary to change the step length in the sequence editor, it's often a case of using the resolution that suits you best (eg I always use 16 steps, regardless of tpb). Also, don't forget tick subdivison can help IMMENSELY AND SHOULD BE used with 'slower' tpbs for sequencing mastery :)
